The new British Grand Prix winner…
With only days before the British Grand Prix kicks off at Silverstone, Oris – the official watch partner of the AT&T Williams F1 team – welcomed a group of journalists and customers to their exclusive ‘Inside Track’ event in London yesterday.
Over mini fish and chips wrapped in newspaper, guests were welcomed by a super-size Scalextric track replicating every curve and straight of Silverstone. They even had a paddock for guests to watch from the side lines as Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima guided us through each corner and gave us an insight into what it is really like competing in the British Grand Prix. Even though it was a significantly smaller track than the real thing at, they explained to us the challenges they faced.
Nico and Kazuki told us how they have plenty of practice in their spare time on simulators and Kazuki commented, “we do most of our practice on simulators, so for Oris to challenge us to this kind of race was really different and I enjoyed it”.
After Nico set the best lap time of 6.30 seconds, guests were then given the challenge to beat him. It must have been my practise on the NSPCC Scalextric set at an event of theirs that I attended a few weeks ago, or Kazuki’s tips, or even just sheer luck… but I managed to come a close second to Nico, beating all of the boys! I received a stunning lightweight Kazuki limited edition watch! What better way to win your first grand prix race! The only thing that was missing was the sound of the British National anthem.
Do keep a look out in the magazine and online as we will be running a competition inside the next issue of Motor Sport for our readers to win their very own Oris watch!
