Outside of the teams — “manufacturers” — themselves, who actually cares about this championship? Since the original such championship came about in 1958 — the first to have ‘formule internationale no. 1′ in its title, to my knowledge, until the 1981 season when everything changed — and was won by Tony Vandervell’s Vanwall team, giving the British racing establishment, by jingo!, another reason to celebrate the 1958 season, I have often wondered if many outside The Few even realized it existed. It could disappear and I am not sure it would be missed by the fans. It seems to serve primarily as a scheme by which to distribute the loot to the teams these days. HDC

Not so fast. It is a World Championship and it means a lot to lot of people, although the Driver’s Championship will always be more popular with the fans. But it adds to Formula One, especially in a year like this when the World Champion’s team was unable to win the Constructor’s title. In fact, there should be two separate categories for chassis constructors and engine builders.

Well, I am not one of those people. I have never had much interest in this championship and never will. HDC
