Years ago I concluded an interview with Bernie Ecclestone with a question about his relationship with Max Mosley. We all sit there in the press room, I said, and endlessly ask, ‘Well, are they joined at the hip, or what? Are they really at loggerheads about this or that? Or…

Interesting, but it tells me precious little that I didn't already know.
This is a hell of mess and I really do fear that it will not just go away as perhaps Max and Bernie would wish. The main players, car manufacturers and major global corporations cannot and do not deserve to be treated this way. Max fro God's sake you have enjoyed one hell of run, please have the good grace to leave, stage left, NOW.

Leaving Max's little issue to one side for a moment (it's getting a bit dull - he should have gone weeks ago), I am more interested in what is going to happen when Bernie finally departs F1? Your article clearly highlights where the power still resides. Who is most likely to replace him (could it be Max?!). No one can last (or live) forever - not even Bernie.
Peter Makeham, June 14th, 2008 at 2:10 am
Dear Nigel,
Could you please stop this logging in nonsense. I have been a reader of Motor Sport since 1956 and enjoy the magazine greatly.
I am extremely computer literate, but have no patience for all this logging on with a password, so I now erase your e-mails without looking further. It seems quite unnecessary to me.
Kind Regards,
Peter Makeham

Nigel,
Bernie is a very complex person, we all know that. However, he is a very deep thinker in all matters with critical analysis at the head of all his decisions.
Bernie would not make any decision or utterance without a lot of research and analytical reasoning. He also considers all the arguments and is one of the best listeners you will ever meet. That is why he is where he is in F1 and business.
On the otherside he is also extremely loyal to people who he considers friends. Some of his friendships are decades old and he is not rash in throwing away these loyal friends.
Another thing that Bernie loves is the truth. Also he hates 'brown nosers' and has a great relationship with genuine people. He well knows all of Max's foibles and indiscretions from way, way back and I am sure that Bernie would have closely considered all the aspects of this entire affair. You can safely bet that Bernie will not cut off Max whilst ever any of the above is working. However, I fear that Max has failed in one important consideration with Bernie.

Agree completely with the wiew of Mr Makeham. When you started the e-mail idea it was good but now worthless!!!!!!!!!!
Kind regards

I agree, it seems pointless to have to log in. The fact that you are contacting us means that we are subscribers and therefore interested in the articles, why make things more difficult than they need be.
colin dawson, June 17th, 2008 at 9:56 am
I agree - I've already forgotten my log-in details! This is what happens at our time of life….
TCB, June 17th, 2008 at 11:35 am
Agree 100% with Peter, Hans and most especially Paul. You send us the e-mail in the first instance - we go to read your chat and then waste valuable time and energy going through your very labourious logging-in process. No more for me thanks very much. Database building best left to others not MotorSport subscribers.
Peter Smith, June 17th, 2008 at 11:51 am
I also agree the above comments. We have so many log ins , passwords, pin numbers these days it would be nice for Motor Sport to avoid this nonsense - life's too short.
Tony Young, June 17th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
This was a good idea (Nigel Roebuck is always worth reading) but why all the business about 'logging in'……there is no security issue here….more details to remember….forgot my 'password'….requested a prompt….no response…..can't be bothered……bye!
Graham Roberts, June 17th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
I have to agree with Peter and the others as one just loses patience, deletes the mail and moves on to easier ways of obtaining information
Chris Gawne, June 18th, 2008 at 7:07 am
I agree with all the above - what unnecessary waste of time.
Simon Carlsson Browne, June 18th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
I entirely agree with al the other contributors. A good idea spoiled by bean counters. Get rid of the logging on process.
Ed Foster, June 18th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Dear All,
The accessibility of the Roebuck emails is very important so please rest-assured that your comments are being read and noted and we are doing the best we can to sort the problem out.
Many thanks for you patience and I'll let you know when we have come up with a solution.
Best

Stop this nonsense!
We are all subscribers
Anthony Pilling, June 19th, 2008 at 11:21 am
I agree, get rid of logging in its just too much hassle. I read Motor Sport for relaxation, its a mag not a Bank Account.
Ed Foster, June 19th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Dear All,
We are reading and taking note of all your emails, and please understand that with any new site there are always a few teething problems.
Thank you for your feedback and we will get back to you as soon as possible with a solution.

Can only add fuel to the fire and hope that you can find a way round the log in situation. However thoroughly enjoy Nigel's articles and responses to the questions that are raised and I find it all truly interesting and informative.
Many thanks
Richard Wheeler, June 20th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
I agree with all the above comments about logging in. Please change it.
Nick W, June 27th, 2008 at 1:39 am
Dear Ed,
Can I chime in with another bug bear..
I would like to order the digital archives..all sound very high-tech but to my dismay I have to ;
a; Print out the form
b; Put my credit card details on it
c; Got the post office and send to the UK
These days you should be able to pay online (everyone is doing it!) and then download it to our computers…easy!
If we want a CD as well we can always burn one..after all we need a computer to read them!
Robin Adams, June 28th, 2008 at 5:06 am
I'm 100% in agreement with all the others above.
I can't be bothered with all this logging in nonsense.
Ed Foster, June 30th, 2008 at 10:29 am
Dear Nick,
We are in the process of updating the site at the moment and shortly it will be possible to pay online. Sorry for the delay.

Gentlemen
I fully agree with the above comments, would much prefer to be able to not only purchase on-line, but also download the relevant content paid for. Surely it is more cost effective to provide this service, and also will enable me to store on a hard drive, which, for me at least, is easier to work with.

I believe that Mosley and Ecclestone are only playing a game. A very profitable one…
Keith Kirby, July 9th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
As with so many others I feel the logging on process is a total wate of time. What are you trying to prove? As of now all your articles will be deleted without my bothering to read them. What a pity!
Anthony Kett, July 19th, 2008 at 10:34 am
I also agree with Mr Makeham, which is probably why I have not commented until 19th July!
